Exterior Paint Products

Majority of the products we use for our exterior painting services come from Sherwin Williams and Hirshfields. Both of these suppliers manufacturer their own line of paint.  Hirshfields is considered a “mutley store” meaning they carry a variety of products from different manufacters. However, they also manufacture their own line of paint called “Hirshfields Paint Manufacturing.” Sherwin Williams carries only products manufactured in-house.  Here is a description of those products:

Sherwin Williams

• Duration – Considered their top of the line acrylic self-priming exterior paint. This is a great product when looking for industry leading durability but it does come with a hefty price tag.  It currently retails for around $55.00 per gallon.
• Super Paint – This product would be a step down from the Duration Paint.  It is not a self-priming paint but in most cases this is well worth the cost savings over Duration.
• Woodscapes – Exterior solid or semi-transparent stain.  The solid stain is acrylic while the semi-transparent stain is a water based polyurethane.  Woodscapes is self priming.  While solid or semi-transparent stains may not last as long as a paint, they are one of the easiest products to apply and the preparation work is minimized for subsequent applications.

Hirshfields

• Platinum Exterior - This product compares best to the Duration paint from Sherwin Williams.  It’s 100% acrylic, self priming and goes on thicker than their other products and offers a lifetime warranty.  This product is in the upper tier price bracket.
• Housecoat - Step down from Platinum Exterior as far as durability but makes great sense for re-paints to save money.
• Sikkens - Great product for natural looking wood. We use it for both decks and exterior siding. The deck formula is SRD while the siding formula is called Log and Cabin. Log and Cabin is not used on decks because it will peel.

The Process

After you have chosen a product or went with our recommendation, we will schedule the work.  All jobs are entered into our scheduling system which you can view through our customer log-in area. We will then start with preparation of the project.  Preparing the surface to be painted or stained is one of the most important steps.  Whether it be pressure washing, scraping or sanding we’ll make sure the correct amount of preparation is done in accordance with your proposal.  Upon completion of the prep work we let the house or deck dry sufficiently before work is started.  When the project is dry we take the next step which is protecting areas with tape, plastic or drop clothes so paint doesn’t end up where it’s not supposed to be.  Finally we’re ready to do the application.  You can choose for us to use a spraying method or we can use traditional buckets and rollers if you like.
